Time For Three
Charles Yang, violin / vocals
Nicolas “Nick” Kendall , violin / vocals
Ranaan Meyer, double bass / vocals
Defying convention and boundaries, Time For Three stands at the busy intersection of Americana, modern pop, and classical music. To experience Time For Three (TF3) live is to hear the various eras, styles, and traditions of Western music fold in on themselves and emerge anew.
Time For Three—Charles Yang (violin, vocals), Nicolas “Nick” Kendall (violin, vocals), and Ranaan Meyer (double bass, vocals)—have found a unique and captivating niche. The Sydney Morning Herald praised their “brilliant classical technique, stylistic eclecticism, improvisatory flair, and imaginative wildness to produce performances of energy, humour, and fun.”
Their appetite for artistic partnerships is as expansive as their own performance interests. The high-energy trio has collaborated with artists as diverse as Ben Folds, Branford Marsalis, Joshua Bell, Aoife O’Donovan, and Arlo Guthrie. With Ben Sollee, they composed and recorded the original film score for Robin Wright’s directorial debut Land. Time For Three recently won two 2023 Grammy Awards for their most recent album Letters for the Future, recorded with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and featuring commissions for the group by composers Jennifer Higdon (2015’s Concerto 4-3) and Kevin Puts (2022’s Contact).
Whether they’re performing contemporary music, jazz, classical, or pop covers, Time For Three will dazzle you!
“This remarkable group is not to be missed, and its members play (and sing) with joy, mastery, creativity, and supreme artistry in all that they do; truly, no one else is like Time For Three. ”
The Strad
“Simply put, they’re a knockout! Three benevolent monsters, monsters of ability and technique surely. But also conveyors of an infectious joy that I find both touching and moving. I would recommend them not only for entertainment value, but also for anyone looking to see how all types of American Music can develop, when life and passion such as this are breathed into it. ”
